尼克（梅尔·吉布森 Mel Gibson 饰）是芝加哥一间广告公司的小经理，是个典型的大男子主义者。对于新来的女人上司达西（海伦·亨特 Helen Hunt 饰），他更是满腹牢骚。达西要求尼克设计出女性用品的创意广告，令达西分外头痛，一不留神，尼克在自家浴室中触了电，这次事故让他获得了一个神奇的本领——读心术。
