巴迪的疗法对于戴夫来说，无异于一场灾难。治疗中心的病人个个脾气古怪，巴迪不断的逼迫戴夫去做一些近乎发疯的事情，让戴夫感到即使不疯也要快要被逼疯了。但是更糟糕的事情还刚刚开始，法庭认为戴夫的进展过于缓慢，如果他再不加快“治疗”，就要送他去监狱了。
被逼入绝境的戴夫，只好忍受巴迪的刺激疗法，例如不断的用污言秽语攻击他的女朋友，不断利用戴夫过去的心灵伤疤来刺激他。戴夫感到自己的极限就要到来，他在退缩封闭自己的内心，还是勇敢面对完整的自己两个选择中，犹豫了……
到底巴迪医生与病人戴夫的磨合调整，会是柳暗花明，还是陷入无尽的内心黑洞当中呢？
